Ehsan Kassim graduated from the University of Alabama in May 2018. He majored in journalism and minoring in creative writing. He has dreamed of being a professional baseball reporter since he was a young kid, with Fox reporter Ken Rosenthal and the late Miami Sun-Sentinel writer Juan Rodriguez being Kassim’s biggest writing influences.
Kassim was born in Coral Springs, Florida and has lived in New Mexico, Georgia and Alabama in his brief life. He has a life goal of living in as many states as possible in his lifetime, hopefully covering different sporting events as a journalist.
Kassim spent years as the editor of the Miami Marlins fan blog Marlin Maniac. He managed a staff of between two and ten writers, editing their work, as well promoting the work on social media. His experience gained as the editor has served him well in his pursuit of his degree in Journalism.
During his tenure at Marlin Maniac, Kassim gained media credentials for a Jacksonville Suns game in Birmingham. While at the game, he got the chance to interview current MLB players Logan Morrison, Jake Marisnick, and Nathan Eovaldi. He also interviewed Roger Hoover, the Suns play-by-play commentator, during the series and after the Suns season concluded.
Another memorable interview for Kassim was with Giovanny Alfonzo after he was selected by the Marlins in 21st round in the 2015 MLB amateur draft. Alfonzo is the nephew of the former MLB star, Edgardo Alfonzo.
In the summer of 2017, Kassim interned at The Tuscaloosa News. He covered a variety of different sports under executive sports editor Tommy Deas, including a chance to cover the SEC Media Days.
In May of 2017, Kassim covered the Tuscaloosa Softball Regional as a stringer for the Pioneer Press, covering the Minnesota Gophers. He also has experience in freelancing for The Dispatch, covering Alabama media days.
Kassim most recently was a staff writer for the Crimson White at the University of Alabama and an intern at The Tuscaloosa News.
